“Measures of Men” (German: “Der Vermessene Mensch“) is a powerful drama film directed by Lars Kraume and released in 2023. The film tells the story of the Herero and Namaqua genocide, which occurred in German South West Africa (now Namibia) between 1904 and 1908. Leonard Scheicher delivers a stunning performance as the ethnologist who uncovers the brutal truth about the atrocities committed against the indigenous people.

Although a painful story, Chocolate Tribe is thrilled to work on these poignant narratives that allow us to reckon with the past and not sweep it under the carpet. Our team handled the On-Set VFX Supervision and VFX in post, spending two months on location in Swakopmund, Namibia. 

Period dramas such as “Measures of Men” require authenticity and a true replication of the past, so that the audience journeys into an immersive experience that locates them in that era. For this reason VFX plays an important role to teleport the viewer into that time and place.

“Measures of Men” premiered to critical acclaim at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival on February 22, 2023, and was released in cinemas on March 23, 2023. It is a must-see for anyone interested in powerful and thought-provoking films. Chocolate Tribe delivered over 40 VFX shots for the film, including set extensions, clean-ups, and digital matte painting to capture the era that the film was set in.
