Cognition

Cognition

BBC | Ravi Ajit Chopra

Brit Sci-fi short Cognition, starring Andrew Scott and Jeremy Irvine and, produced and directed by Ravi Ajit Chopra, is a short dystopian sci-fi drama / thriller about a son confronting his past trauma to reconnect with his father. Journeying through the symbolic landscape of the subconscious mind, the story follows an unbreakable bond between father and son… A bond that transcends space and time…

Filmed on location at the iconic Battersea Power Station (London) with support from various BBC departments, including an orchestral score from the BBC’s 55 Piece Concert Orchestra, recorded at Air Studios in London.

Renowned production designers Universal Creations (Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy) built key sets and props. Emmy award winning supervising sound editor

Stuart McCowan and his team produced a searing atmospheric soundtrack at Twickenham Film Studios with a Dolby Atmos print at Abbey Road Studios.

Technicolor worked on the film from an early stage and provided grading and finish. Multiple VFX companies were assigned to individual scenes in the film.

Chocolate Tribe worked on the full opening scene of the desert on Planet Vega. All 40 shots were filmed in front of green screen, with the exception of 5 shots, which were full CGI. The Chocolate Tribe team designed and created all landscapes, storms and set extensions. Working closely with the director to set a look and feel for the world build, we moved onto the 3D, digital matte painting and compositing, using tools such as Nuke, After Effects, Maya and Redshift.  In total the film comprised of 350 Visual Effects shots.

Showmax "Game Changers"

Showmax

Game Changers

Showmax, a heavyweight in the streaming platform game on the African continent, added a groundbreaking service to their profile. Live streaming of major sporting events.

Multichoice and Egg Films approached Chocolate Tribe to take their inspiring script and bring Muhammad Ali back to life.

The director, Adrian de Sa Garces, cast a boxer of similar build and fighting style. After filming multiple beautiful close up moments of the boxer and various reference angles, we went into a motion capture session to digitize all the boxer’s movements required for the full 3D Ali performances. With the live action plates and motion capture done, an advanced postvis was assembled.

Whilst the above was happening, our 3D modeling, texturing and shading team started sculpting a highly detailed Muhammad Ali model, as well as shaping the various 3D spaces for the live action and computer generated Ali to perform in.

Detailed worlds were build in 3D emulating all the imperfections of real life. Once the model of Ali was ready, the rigging commenced in Maya. To ensure the body dynamics and deformations were as true to life as possible, Ali was rigged with a skeletal, muscle, fat and skin simulation system, simulating all the different layers needed to add that extra weight to his movements.

An array of sports heroes graced the CGI screens surrounding the icon, making the space as well as the content on the screen fit within the powerful narrative spoken by Muhammad Ali.

This massive project was so close to our hearts as the team was honoured to be bringing Ali’s legend back to life.

Thank you to everybody involved.

Chicken Licken "They also crave it"

Chicken Licken

THEY ALSO CRAVE IT

Chicken LickenHotwings – Zezorc

When you put together the creative team from Joe Public and Romance Films, under the direction of Terence Neale, we all get excited and magic happens.

Chocolate Tribe collaborated with the team in bringing Chicken Licken’s latest creation to life.
The project kicked of with our concept design team, bringing Zezorc, the friendly alien (and his “hangry” alter-ego) to life. It was vital for us to create an alien we could all connect with instantly.

Please click here to view the behind the scenes.

Once the design was locked, and the 3D character was modelled, textured and rigged, we spend a lot of time crafting every moment in animation.

The over 2 minutes long commercial takes you on the eventful journey of Zezorc and his earthling adoptive family. From camping in the dark woods to shopping for a new mailbox, Zezorc remains on a quest for something more. The story of our dear little friend makes you love our little wing craver, even though he has some issues controlling his hangry spurts.

It was 3 months of pure animation fun and we absolutely can’t wait to create more adventures with Zezorc. What a galactic joy this was!

Super Bowl Ad - Pringles "Space Return"

Pringles – Does it get bigger than an advert for The Superbowl? Pringles – Space Return was an exciting transatlantic creative affair between GREY Agency, Townhouse Production Company, Greg Gray from  Romance Films, Chocolate Tribe VFX and Company 3. It is a fun, buoyant, and entertaining advert about 2

astronauts returning to earth in hope of a heroes’ welcome. But unfortunately, they have been forgotten due to the craze of “Pringles stacking”. Chocolate Tribe’s work included the creation of the landing pod interior and exterior, control room set extension, a ship with water simulations and sky replacements.
