Virgin Money "I love Insurance" in the media

Greg Rom’s recent ad, from Gentlemen films, and Net#work BBDO featured in the February 2017 edition of Screen Africa. The Virgin Money ad, “I Love Insurance”, gives a brief glimpse behind the scene of the ad. In total, Chocolate Tribe completed 10 VFX shots, as well as supervised the VFX on-set for the whole campaign. The opening shots of the main commercial has our happy hero magically swiping

money from his hands, while a lady with hair on fire dances away in front of her burning house. All money and fire elements were created and composited at Chocolate Tribe. The final VFX shots were then neatly slotted into the ad by the lovely people at Ludus. It was a great pleasure working with the whole team and we are happy to see the ad being so well received by the audience.

The final ad can be viewed here: Virgin Money “I Love Insurance”.

We’re very excited to hear that Roots, episode 1, has been nominated for “Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Photoreal Episode” at the 15th Annual VES Awards. The Visual Effects Society (VES) celebrates the top achievements in the VFX industry each year, and learning that Roots has been nominated along side the other great VFX work this year, is a great honour for all of us who have worked on it. Los Angeles (January 10, 2017) – Today, the Visual Effects Society (VES), the industry’s professional global honorary society, announced the nominees for the 15th Annual VES Awards, the prestigious yearly celebration that recognizes outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials and video games and the VFX supervisors, VFX producers and hands-on artists who bring this work to life.  Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Doctor Strange, The Jungle Book, Kubo and the Two Strings and Game of Thrones are some of the top contenders this year. The VES Awards will herald the organization’s milestone 20th anniversary. Nominees in 24 categories were selected by VES members via events hosted by its ten sections, including Australia, Bay Area, London, Los Angeles, Montreal, New York, Toronto and Vancouver.

The VES Awards will be held on February 7th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  As previously announced, the Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to multiple Academy Award®-winning visual effects pioneer Ken Ralston.  The Visionary Award will be presented to acclaimed producer and Marvel Studios Executive Vice President of Physical Production Victoria Alonso. “The artistry, ingenuity and passion of visual effects practitioners around the world have come together to create truly remarkable imagery in a variety of media,” said Mike Chambers, VES Chair.  “We are seeing best in field work that elevates the art of storytelling and engages the audience in new and innovative ways.  The VES Awards is the only venue that showcases and honors these outstanding artists across a wide range of disciplines, and we are extremely proud of all our nominees!”

Virgin Money - "I Love Insurance"

Don’t love insurance? We don’t blame you. The Virgin brand has always been about changing business for good and insurance is no different. Insurance is plagued with grudge and discontent. Very simply, people feel like insurance companies don’t treat them like people. It’s up to Virgin Money Insurance to come in and change this..

Chocolate Tribe delivered all shots for 3 full sequences of the ad (3D and compositing). First we added lots of CG money to the opening car accident sequence, then we set a house on fire, and to top it off, we also lit up the lady’s hair across 2 sequences

VFX Delivered for Roots - Episode 1

History Channel

May 2016 – Chocolate Tribe is excited to have been part of the VFX team on the mini TV-series, Roots. The classic story of “Roots” is retold in this miniseries based on Alex Haley’s 1976 novel. The show paints a portrait of American slavery through the journey of a family that has a will to survive through many hardships. Malachi Kirby stars as Kunta Kinte, a proud and educated young man who uses those traits to empower himself when he is captured and sold into slavery. While he is enslaved, he challenges his fellow slaves to fight for their freedom as he continues working toward achieving his dream of escaping and returning to his homeland of The Gambia. The miniseries also stars Emmy winner Laurence Fishburne as Haley; Grammy nominee Anika Noni Rose as Kunta’s daughter, Kizzy, who is bought by Tom Lea (Jonathan Rhys Meyers), who rapes and impregnates her; and Oscar winner Forest Whitaker as slave musician Fiddler, who mentors Kunta.

KFC "Shark"

Australian surfer Mick Fanning’s close encounter with a shark during a surf event in July has been parodied in a commercial by fast food chain KFC in South Africa. Fanning survived a near death experience during the final round of the J-Bay Open on July 19 when a shark attacked him in the water on live television.

The harrowing moment has been recreated by KFC in an ad which sees a Fanning look-a-like also attacked by a shark from behind, with one notable difference. The surfer picks up the shark up and rides a wave holding the creature over his head triumphantly in a moment described as “next level awesome” by the commentators. The commercial was made to advertise a new burger being sold at KFC restaurants in South Africa.
