Role Description:
The Financial Accountant will be the guardian of Chocolate Tribe’s financial health and its community legacy. You will provide high-level advisory and strategic oversight for the studio’s commercial operations while ensuring financial sustainability and compliance for our non-profit arm, the AVIJOZI NPC. This role requires a versatile and adaptable leader who can navigate both the corporate creative sector and the specialised world of non-profit financial management.
Key Responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and present comprehensive monthly financial reports for Chocolate Tribe.
- Manage full-function accounting, including balance sheets and project-margin analysis.
- Provide strategic advice to the CEO on cash flow and financial risk mitigation.
- Assist in client liaison and account management, supported by the Production Team.
- Community Impact & Non-Profit (AVIJOZI NPC)
- Financial Stewardship: Manage the full financial function for AVIJOZI, ensuring clear separation between commercial and non-profit funds.
- Donor Compliance: Prepare financial reports for sponsors, donors, and grant-making bodies, ensuring all funds are utilized according to grant agreements.
- PBO & Tax Oversight: Ensure AVIJOZI maintains its Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) status and handles the issuance of Section 18A tax certificates for donors.
- Audit Readiness: Oversee the annual audit for the NPC, ensuring complete transparency in community-focused spending.
- Statutory Compliance & Tax (SARS, COIDA, B-BBEE)
- Execute all SARS requirements (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax) for both the studio and the NPC.
- Oversee COIDA and B-BBEE reporting, using AVIJOZI’s initiatives to bolster the company’s Socio-Economic Development (SED) scores.
- Funding, Sponsorship & Grants: Lead applications for Mandatory and Discretionary Grants through SETAs to fund internal training and community development.
- Assist Auditors on all accounting matters.
- Assist in HR matters (that relate to financial aspects, i.e., leave calculations, etc.)
- Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Manage and mentor junior finance staff, fostering a culture of accuracy and professional growth.
- Act as a bridge between the finance department and the creative/production teams.
- From time to time, train and develop staff in financial management/ related matters.
Candidate Requirements
- Education: BCom Accounting / Honours (CA(SA) or Professional Accountant (SA) preferred).
- Sector Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Creative, Film, and Tech space.
- NPC Experience: Specific experience in managing the finances of a Non-Profit Company (NPC) or NGO, including donor reporting and PBO compliance.
- Versatility: A “Great with Numbers” mindset coupled with empathy, a can-do attitude, and adaptability needed to work on diverse projects as well as community-driven projects.
- Software: Proficiency in cloud-based accounting (e.g., Xero, Sage) and reporting too.
